Kolonia, Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia.
This whole area is named Micronesia. But in the middle of it lies F.S.M. Another unknown speck of green in this infinite blue. It's extremely difficult to get here and quite expensive too. Flightroutes are dominated by Continental Airlines who overcharge and make you fly through Guam. But when you finally arrive in F.S.M. on the capital island of Pohnpei, it's worth it. Athough I guess that depends on your interests. For sure it's a fascinating cultural experience.
There's a massive WW2 junkyard on these hard fought over islands. Again stating the strategic location of these pacific islands. On Pohnpei there's a strong American presence but the Chinese have also found their way here and recently donated a huge government building in the centre of town.
But Kolonia is mostly a restfull place. The spot I choose saw a lot of action for Kolonian standards. Which is not much by any other standards. Herein lies the comfort of F.S.M. too I guess. It's just very quiet. The big telecommunications dish reminds the new passerby that there's even such a thing as the outside world. But after a while you stop noticing it. I didn't notice it anymore. You're on Pohnpei.
