In the streets mixed Malaysia looks tolerant. There are 3 major ethnic groups: Malay, the Chinese and Indians. All have their own religion and culture. Still they go together fairly well and Kuala Lumpur feels relaxed for an Asian city. Is it?

Here you can see the very big contrast between the traditional lifestyle in the streets and the high economic development. But both go together well. With a good friend, who is on holiday here, I explore Malaysia's nightlife. Homosexuality is illegal but on Friday the biggest disco has a gay night. Muslims are not allowed to drink but there are still relatively many at the bar. They are standing next to the many prostitutes who according to the law cannot be there.

Apparently, policemen sometimes show up in a bar and give gays, prostitutes or drinking Muslims a hard time to set an example. For me that's intollerable. For an Islamic country it's kind of liberal.
