I had the strange idea that Lima would be some dusty old colonial town.. It’s not. A boasting, noisy and massive city with 7 million people on the shore of the Pacific, is what Lima is.
I spent some days in Miraflores, the cool new area by the sea. And some days in the Old Centre where I took this photo. But I was especially excited to come to Peru because of a magical place called Machu Picchu.
I’ve wanted to go there since I was a little kid. In secondary school we did a project on Peru and on Machu Picchu in particular. When I saw the photos of that place I knew that, one day, I would walk up those steps myself. I did.
And what a magical place this is! Of all the places I’ve seen so far I really think Machu Picchu is the most beautiful. The setting is absolutely sublime between the serene mountains with clouds quietly floating upwards from the valleys below.
You can even climb higher all the way up to the top of the typical mountain in the back of all the photos. From there the views are even more stunning. The photos I took of Machu Picchu are available at My Journal on this website.
I was so happy to be in this awesome place. Another dream that became reality during this fantastic project.
