Kenya has had a lot of examples of how some things can go well in Africa. Tourism in particular is a huge source of income for the country and business wise, as shown in this picture, the Kenyans are working hard to get there. But this is the centre, not the slums.

Kenyatta Avenue is the main street and the business centre of Nairobi. It looks quite relaxed, you might say. This is not really the case. Especially if you are a white man standing in a fixed place for a while. The first time, even without camera a guy tries to rip me off with a very transparent story. When I refuse he says "Next time I see you, I kill you!". After this I decided to bring the hotel bodyguard with me for security..

Even with Manny the bodyguard by my side it is extremely difficult to work in Kenyatta Avenue. Over and over again he has to scare guys away who try to steal my photogear from me.

Yes, Kenya is a good example of how it could be in Africa, but it still is an African country and the differences between rich and poor are enormous. I'm afraid this won't change very soon.
