WHY?
The Mercato, where they sell khat, the cheap drug people use to forget they are hungry, in the Horn of Africa. It works extra well in the thin air of the capital, set at an altitude of 3,000 metres.
WHAT?
Nobody likes photographers here, for a good reason: khat is officially illegal, although almost everybody is chewing it. When I wasn’t looking, sellers threw peanuts at me. I thought it was a funny way to get rid of me, the street voyeur!
