WHY? 

It’s the youngest nation in the world. When I was here during its first year of existence, things were still quite peaceful and hopeful. 

WHAT? 

People were not so friendly to a western photographer. After accidentally taking shots of illegal moneychangers, I was first beaten up and then interrogated for hours by the secret police. Eventually I was able to take this picture.
