Transport is a huge part of daily life throughout the world. In Libreville, much of it takes place on waterways, rivers and the sea. At the end of the day, the fishing boats return to shore with their catch and head up river to sell their fish on the riverbanks. Local women take the river bus to get to the markets and buy fish that they resell in their villages.
The lady in the front is totally wrapped in plastic. The fish are loaded into big bowls carried on the women’s heads, while they stand in the river alongside the fishing boats. This way, she stays dry and clean. The catch is getting smaller and smaller here too. This lady eventually went home empty-handed. The children go everywhere on their mother’s back, where it’s cosy and safe.
