Washing shoes in the same water where young and old wash themselves. Obviously, merchants insist on presenting shining merchandise to dazzle their customers.
WHAT?
Most shoes have been donated by foreign organisations and should indeed be cleaned. The locals fear our diseases as much as we do theirs! After this ritual the shoes are sold on the bridge and in town.
