‘Nobody’s going to know about this absolutely incredible adventure if I don’t write it down. So, I figured I’d better start writing.’
That’s how I sat down behind my laptop on the island of Tuvalu in the South pacific and wrote down the first pages of my 7-year trip around the world. The beautiful stories, the amazing people I met along the way, the unbelievable places I was lucky enough to visit.
It just had to become a book
I thought about what I would want the book of a world travelling photographer to be like. Should it be a book about how I took 195 photos in capitals? Or should it be an honest recount of everything that happens to a guy travelling alone around the world for 7 years? All the emotions, fears and excitement, horrors and loves? I chose the latter.
That is how Streets of the World – The Book became an in your face, honest and non-concealing travel book about a modern-day discovery of the world and its people.
Inspired by the four elements of life
I decided to divide the book into four parts based on the four elements of life on earth: air, water, earth and fire. From the air that gave me room to breathe because I was able to start living my dream, to the water that made me start to flow in this newly chosen travelling life, getting more and more stuck into the earth after years on the road to ending in the fire of wars and destruction.
What it taught me?
Curious what I learned about humanity, life on this earth with my fellow humans and mostly about myself? You’ll find out in this book about my really one-of-a-kind project. But mostly enjoy the beauty of travel and discovery in a world that is still full of surprises.
