Streets of the World Photo Museum in Zaandam the Netherlands

Want to visit the Streets of the World Photo Museum in Zaandam? Check out our Dutch exhibition website or the English version if you like, for more information about our Dutch location and to plan your visit.

At the once notorious Hembrug site in Zaandam the Netherlands, stands a 3800m2 warehouse that houses 195 life sized photographs made in as many Streets of the World, by famous Dutch photographer Jeroen Swolfs.

195 city trips in one day

The Streets of the World Photo Museum has three floors with several stairwells and hidden spaces; reminiscent of a maze of streets, squares and markets. With every floor, you enter a new continent. It’s the perfect setting for 195 city trips in as many pictures. The life-size prints make you feel like you truly enter different cities; from a oppressive Pyongyang street to an idyllic harbor in Togo or a public park in Tegucigalpa.

In a mysterious setting at a UNESCO-world heritage site

You can find the pop-up photo exhibition just outside of Amsterdam, at the mysterious Hembrug site that was off limits for decades. For over a century the Ministry of Defense used it to produce ammunition. Now, after years of dereliction, a new era is starting. The monumental warehouse is illustriously named ‘The Death’ – after former caretaker Mr. de Dood – and has been restored without losing its raw edges and history (we even find empty bullet shells there sometimes). It’s an important part of multiple century old buildings, that together form the UNESCO-world heritage site het Hembrugterrein.

Don’t miss out

There’re many reasons to plan a trip to Amsterdam and visiting our pop-up photo museum is definitely one of them. If you don’t want to miss out (and believe us you don’t) make sure you plan your visit before 30 September 2018, because we’ll close our monumental warehouses doors on 1 October 2018, never to be opened again in this unique area.

Say what?

Okay we love a bit of drama. We are closing BUT luckily, we pop-up elsewhere in the Netherlands. From November onwards Jeroen’s photographs are still waiting for you to behold them, in a unique outdoor exhibition at the famous business district Zuidas in Amsterdam for another year. See, there’s no excuses to miss out on this unique exhibition, so you better start to plan your visit here.

Okay, but before I jump in the car, train, airplane tell me a bit more…

Sure. You can find more information about this exhibition on our exhibition website in Dutch and of course also in English.

If you can't wait to see the photographs till your visit (because you’re coming, right?) and want to have a sneak preview on your screen first? Please check out our photo gallery, where you can also actually buy the photos in different sizes to bring your favorite country home for the ultimate lasting holiday feeling.
